The blade of an ice skate is the origin of each force produced by the skater. Having a sharp blade is essential for the user equipment and its performance. If you skate on the ice, you must learn not only to sharpen your equipment but also analyze the services of a professional and know the theory behind the process of beveling and construction.
Different modes have different skating blades, some of them with greater curvature, with secrets, and another shorter, not entangled with the skates of the couple. Regardless of the sport, all the skates have two ends and hollow space that needs to be maintained during the edging.

1. Sharpen your skates.
- There are several different reasons to do this:
- If you have bought new skates.
- They feel less safe for skating. If you notice that you are doing unexpected sideways movements.
- If it is necessary to adjust the blade runners to the conditions of the ice, sharpening is necessary. Many jokey players will do this procedure before each game, or between intervals after learning more about the ice rink site.
- If the leaf seems foreign and not very well reflect light.
2. Understand the grinding process.
The end of the blade is cut deep and has a cross-section. The radius of the circle is called the radius of the hole, English “Hollow Radio” (ROH).
- ROHS deeper holes have smaller. Deeper holes tend to keep the ice better, leaving the skids slower.
- The desired ROH will depend on the person and the sport in which you are involved.
- Larger ROHs allow you Extended Use without sharpening. They allow the skater to be faster, and less maneuverable than the smaller ROHs.
3. Understand the radius of the rocker.
The skates have a curve that goes from the beginning to the end, called the rocker. The intensity of the curve of the rocker arm is called a rocker.
- The keys that have a larger radius are faster and more stable and are usually sought after by the speed of the skaters.
- The figure skaters prefer a smaller radius to greater maneuverability.
4. Make a quick sharpening of the edges of the skates.
Use a grindstone to gently sharpen the end of the skids. This will soften the piece and can be useful for removing the small notches.
5. Buy a sharpening device with a grinding wheel.
Buy with the same ROH and the width of the blades.
7. Attach the skids to special support that allows the position perpendicular to the grinding wheel, and gently guide the part on the surface.
Only remove a sufficient amount of metal in the blade to renew the lower ends. A firm hand is needed to sharpen the blade evenly over its entire length.
8. Use small square engineering to see if the ends are according to the side of the sheet.
Tips (You have to know)
- If the blade has many nicks or cracks, replace it immediately or it will hurt you.
- Freshly sharpened blades will have a satin sheen.
