How Long Is A Soccer Goal?

How Long Is A Soccer Goal?

April 10, 2020 by Daniel Johnson Leave a Comment

The size required by FIFA (World Football Association) for a soccer goal is 7.32 m (8 yards) wide and 2.44 m (8 ft) high.

In the FIFA regulations established in 1875 with respect to the measurements of soccer goalposts, the distance between the two inner posts and the lower edge of the crossbar is determined. which must be 7.32 meters long for the posts and 2.44 meters high for the crossbar. That is 8 yards x 8 feet.

Unlike the length of soccer fields where FIFA or UEFA establish a range of measures within which each team decides to adopt its own. in the case of official measures established for the soccer goal by the regulatory body, there is only one measure.

All goals must comply with the measures established by the International Association Football Federation (FIFA), UEFA or the Royal Spanish Football Federation. However, each variant of soccer like futsal, soccer 5, soccer 7, etc. It has its own regulations where some of these measures may vary.

Other arch measurements

Futsal goal: in the case of futsal, the measures established by FIFA for a goal are 3 meters long by 2 meters high and between 0.8 and one meters deep. The official colors are white and red.

7 soccer goal: in this case, the official measurements stipulated by the rules of the Royal Spanish Soccer Federation are 2 meters high by 6 meters wide.

Limits on the soccer goal

The space of the goal and the characteristics of the posts to mark the delimitations are also established in the FIFA regulations.

The area must be delimited by three posts, a perpendicular upper post, and two vertical posts. the latter called sticks or pipes must be firmly anchored in the field of play by means of boxes in concrete blocks. they must be white and none should be more than 12 cm wide. As for the goal lines, they must have the same measurements as the posts.

Regarding the depth for the fixed goals, from the side, there must be 1.5 meters away. While for removable goals, there must be 80 centimeters deep at the top and 2 meters maximum at the bottom.

Other characteristics of the soccer goal

Both the upper horizontal bar and the two parallel posts can be made of different non-corrosive or corrosion-protected materials. such as plastic, steel, aluminum or light alloy.

To complement the structure of the soccer goal, a square mesh net made of natural or synthetic fiber is required to contain the ball. This must have a maximum dimension of 12 cm and a minimum diameter of the wire of 2 mm.
