n these times of crisis and youth unemployment, the choice of the degree course to enroll in after high school becomes particularly important: investing time and money in a degree that does not offer job opportunities, in fact, can be a mistake that in the long run, you can pay dearly.
For this reason, some degrees that seem to guarantee easier access to the world of work become a goal on which many students are focused, and the only way to make them remain effective degrees, that is, capable of churning out a number of graduates proportionate to the places. actually available, is to close access, through tests that are as reviled as they are now inevitable.

The same is true for physiotherapy, one of the most popular courses in recent years. What are the universities in which it is best to try to enter to obtain this degree? Using, as we have done on other occasions, the data from Censis and Repubblica, we try to give you the answer and some useful information.
1. University of Verona
The top in Italy according to Census
According to Census, the Italian university that achieves the best score for three-year degrees in the medical-health sector is that Verona, which boasts an excellent score in career progression (i.e. in the analysis of the future work that university graduates).
In fact, in this parameter, the university is second only to that of Milano Bicocca, and still boasts a more than fair score in international relations. The average score is thus 99.5 points, particularly high.
The course is limited in number and includes an admission test common to all courses in the health professions area, a test that will screen candidates in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
The course also provides for the assignment of certain educational obligations to those students who will be admitted to the course but will have reported particularly low scores in some of the aforementioned subjects. In addition, some questions could focus on logical or topical questions, aimed at testing the general culture of the student.
Also in Vicenza and Rovereto
The course obviously lasts three years and qualifies for the health profession of a physiotherapist. The first-year courses include subjects such as Human Anatomy, Scientific English, Rehabilitation Methodology, Physiology; in the second Neurology, Pathology, Legal and bioethical principles, Advanced methodologies of rehabilitation, and others; in the third visceral rehabilitation and professional laboratories.
In addition to the Verona office, the same course is also active in the Vicenza and Rovereto branches. And if you want to continue your studies with a master’s degree, in Verona there is also a course in Rehabilitation Sciences of the health professions.
2. University of Milano Bicocca
Internship and high standards, but without a master’s course
Immediately behind Verona, detached by a trifle, is the University of Milano Bicocca, better for the career progression of its graduates but a little behind for the international dimension compared to the University of Verona; the average score is however very high, at 95.5 points.
Here too the structure of the course is more or less the standard one and the number is programmed; the announcement with all the regulations specifies that the test will allow admission to the three-year course that enables the exercise of the profession of a physiotherapist.
The structure of the test obviously follows that of other universities, with questions on biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and general culture. The course is then actually carried out in two different decentralized locations: in Bergamo and in Carate Brianza, in the province of Monza and Brianza.
The main teachings
The courses include the first year Methodology of rehabilitation, Bases of movement, Kinesiology, Inspection, and observational techniques, as well as a consistent number of hours of training; in the second year, we move on to Neuropsychiatry, Neurophysiology and Development, Cardiopulmonary Clinic, Osteoarticular System Clinic, Neurorehabilitation Techniques, and more internship.

Finally, in the third year, we move on to specialized techniques, rehabilitation medicine, and above all an even more demanding internship. On the other hand, Milan Bicocca is missing a master’s degree in the same branch with which to specialize once the first-level degree has been obtained.
3. University of Modena and Reggio Emilia
Young course but already at the top
In third place in the standings, with 94.5 points, is the degree course organized by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, particularly strong in international relations and a little weaker in terms of the professional opportunities of its graduates.
The course is actually carried out in Reggio Emilia at the San Lazzaro University Campus and is limited in number, with around thirty students admitted to attend each year.
In general, it is a rather young course, given that it was launched – following the reform – for the first time in 2011, but the results have already begun to arrive, as evidenced by the excellent position in the Censis ranking. The test questions focus on the same topics already reported elsewhere.
At the San Lazzaro Campus
Here too there is no master’s degree course with which to specialize after three years, but the degree course already offers interesting teachings such as General methodology of rehabilitation and kinesiology, Psycho-pedagogical sciences, Physiology, Anatomy, and internship in the first year.
In the second year come Diseases of the musculoskeletal system, Rehabilitation and physiotherapy in neurology, Bases of pathology and pharmacology, Specialized medicine and physiotherapy, and Neuroscience. Finally, specialist physiotherapy, management in the health area, rehabilitation methodology in developmental age, and a lot of training in the last year.
4. University of Perugia
In the Foligno headquarters
In fourth place, just one glue behind Reggio Emilia, two different universities in the center-north are placed on an equal footing, paired for different reasons at exactly 94 points. The first of the two is that of Perugia, which scores well both in the career progression of its graduates and in the international relations of the degree course.
The physiotherapy course here is actually hosted in the decentralized office in Foligno (even if the secretariat and other administrative elements are located in Perugia) and is obviously limited, to the admission exam.
The only other way to access the course is to obtain a transfer from another degree course in physiotherapy, but always on the condition that there is actually room on the Foligno campus, perhaps due to the renouncement of an already enrolled student.
In recent years, 38 places have been foreseen, 35 of which reserved for students from the European Union, 2 for non-EU students, and 1 for a Chinese student, confirming the international vocation of the Perugian university.
And you can continue with the rehabilitation sciences
The study plan includes in the first year the deepening of the morphological and functional bases (human anatomy, human physiology, neurophysiology), the psychological-relational bases (psychiatry, general sociology, general and social pedagogy), and movement sciences (joint physiology, Kinesiology of movement), as well as a substantial internship.
In the second year, space is devoted to the pathology of the musculoskeletal system and rehabilitation, to specialist medicines and rehabilitation, and to an even more demanding internship; last year, finally, the methodology of special rehabilitation and rehabilitation in the critical area is studied in depth.
And if you want to continue with a master’s degree, the Degree Course in Rehabilitation Sciences of the health professions is active at the Perugia branch.
5. University of Udine
The best for international relations
We conclude with the University of Udine, which, as mentioned, ranks on an equal footing with Perugia / Foligno in fourth place in the ranking but for quite different reasons.
While the Umbrian degree course is in fact quite balanced in the two items analyzed by Censis, the Friulian one excels in international relations (it is in fact the best in Italy from this point of view) while it does not shine excessively in the career progression of its graduates, settling a little below the average of the best.
The course, as always with limited attendance, lasts three years and takes place in Udine. As in the case of the other universities, the test is the same that is administered for all the courses concerning the health professions (and therefore also nursing, obstetrics, motor science) and is, in the case of Udine, prepared by Cineca, then also responsible correction.
The program to study, however, is the one established by the ministry and focuses on high school-level questions of chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and general culture (as well as some questions of logic).
The main courses of the three years of the course
The teachings of the curriculum included in the first year Morphological Bases of the Human Body (Human Anatomy, Neuroanatomy), Physiology, Neurophysiology, and General Pathology and Rehabilitation Methodology 1.
In the second year, the internship activities are increased, alongside Neurology and neurorehabilitation, Clinic and rehabilitation of the musculoskeletal system, Pediatrics and pediatric rehabilitation, and Rehabilitation methodology 2.
Finally, in the third year, the internship becomes even more intense while the exams focus mostly on Clinic and rehabilitation of visceral and special disabilities and spinal cord injuries. Anyone who aims to complete their studies with a master’s degree, however, should keep in mind that even here in Udine there is not one that specifically refers to the area of rehabilitation.
