The Best Years of the Spanish Soccer Team

The Best Years of the Spanish Soccer Team

August 28, 2019 by Daniel Johnson Leave a Comment

The Spanish team was born almost a century ago, and since then, football lovers have seen how it has participated in 14 World Cups, has organized one of them and became the best team in the world for several consecutive years. It is normal that many of the best Spanish soccer players have been part of this era. which we want to review now to see what has undoubtedly been the best stage that Spain has experienced at the football level since we learned to kick a ball. It all started in 2008.

The Eurocup of Austria – Switzerland 2008: the Beginning of the Legend of the Red

This was the second time in history that a Eurocup was held in two countries jointly, and the first one was played in both. A previous qualification round was held, where England was surprised to not get the pass and stay out of the competition. Spain had to compete in the first phase of the European Championship with Russia, Sweden, and Greece. It was not very easy, because he tied one of the matches with Sweden and lost another with Greece. Although at the end he was classified as a group first.

In the quarterfinals, he had to deal with Italy, of which we did not have very good memories. The match reached penalties and the pass to the semifinals was achieved, where we turned to face each other against Russia. A 3-0 made it start to dream of the feat, after breaking the “Curse of the rooms” and reach the final, which had to play against Germany.

But he won. A goal by Fernando Torres made Spain the champion, number 1 in the FIFA ranking for the first time in its history and the beginning of a glorious era.

The World Cup in South Africa: the Red Remains Unstoppable

Spain remained the first team and came as one of the favorites in 2010 to win the World Championship [source]. It was the first time it was played in Africa and it seemed that everything could happen.

And wow he did! The selection of Holland (well, in fact, that of the Netherlands, which is what it has always been called) was the rival to beat in the final, which was not easy to reach. We were in group H, in principle not very complicated, but Switzerland and Chile were not what is said affordable rivals. Then Portugal in eighths, Paraguay in Quarters and again Germany in the semifinals settled with the same result, a 1 to 0 worth to pass. The final was extended, and after a very long match full of arbitration errors, Spain won again, being the first European team to win a World Cup outside the continent.

2012: Spain Makes History Again

No team had won 3 consecutive international championships, so the challenge was capitalized. It was clear that the Red was the rival that everyone wanted to beat, but also that some of the teams jumped into the field with a bit of fear and the vitola of non-favorites. The pressure was maximum.

He had to be part of group C with Italy, Ireland, and Croatia. Rivals not easy, as you could see in the difficulties that the team had to move to the quarterfinals.

After beating France and reaching penalties against Portugal in the semifinal, faces again against Italy in the last game. A blunt 4-0 made Spain a legend. He had reached a level that no team has ever achieved.

Brazil World Cup 2014: the Dream is Over

If achieving a consecutive triplet seemed complicated, doing double in both competitions could only be described as a miracle. But Spain maintained the illusion. An illusion that vanished in the first game.

The Red lost to the Netherlands by 1-5, predicting what was about to happen. We did not pass the group stage and it was Germany that picked up the witness, after winning the Argentine national team in the final.

Two years later, in 2016, we managed to reach eighths, but Italy got us out of the dream of winning 3 consecutive Euro cups. The best years of the Spanish soccer team were over, although we are still a football power, with national stars that militate in some of the best clubs in the world and international that play in our league, one of the most powerful.

The love for football in Spain has always been a maximum. But since we became world champions, and later in legends to get what nobody has ever achieved. It is still greater. Something that in bubble football we like to remember and enjoy, be it in an inflatable bubble or getting excited with a good match of the selection.
