Best Spanish Soccer Players in History

Best Spanish Soccer Players in History

September 7, 2019 by Daniel Johnson Leave a Comment

The Spanish National Team is one of the few combined to own the triple crown of football: World Cup, Eurocup, and Olympic gold. Based on a league of the most powerful in the world, throughout its more than 93 years of history, the Red has passed soccer players who have left their mark and a permanent memory for any fan not only Spanish but of world football.

1-  Xavi Hernandez:

121 international matches, 11 goals. Possibly, the creator of everything. One day Luis Aragonés gave him the baton of the team and he created a team where the ball had music. The father of touch and movement style. The man who never loses the ball, who plays and makes the ones he has next to play better. A genius, three times a bronze ball with an undeniable commitment to the Red that has earned him two Euro cups, a World Cup and a silver medal in Sydney 2000, where curiously he scored in the final a goal.

2- Luis Suarez:

32 international matches, 14 goals. The Architect, a short or long pass genius, vertically or horizontally. The only gold ball born in Spain. The footballer who was the brain of the first great success of the Red: the 1960 Eurocup. His career went to Italy, where perhaps he is valued more than in Spain, but that is why we must not forget that he is one of the greats of the Iberian football He was a national coach in the 1990 World Cup.

3- Andres Iniesta:

81 international matches, 11 goals. To say that it was the man who scored the goal that gave the only World Cup in the history of Spain would be worth to include it in the list. But they also know. Bargaining like no other, it is next to Xavi half axis of the selection, and his changes of rhythms are so spectacular that it is almost impossible to stop him in the race. If I had been born in Brazil, I would already have several Gold balls. For now, you have to settle for the Silver one.

4- Iker Casillas:

144 international matches, 79 goals. Five times declared the best goalkeeper in the world by the IFFHS, his hands have enabled miracles, titles and everything unimaginable. With him, he broke the badge of the penalties, the quarterfinals and so many other curses. Excellent one on one and with impressive reflexes, you can never understand how your performance is always in doubt. He has been the most times international with the Red and the second goalkeeper who has worn a national shirt more times.

5- Fernando Hierro:

89 international matches, 29 goals. The marshal. Defensive or central midfielder. A leader. Charisma, good ball treatment, excellent physical power, extraordinary in the air game, one of the best centers in the history of football, which only lacked a great title to recognize his career with Spain. And on top of all this, one of the top scorers in the history of Spain. Five goals in World Cups, one of them against Switzerland that is a work of art.

6- Raul Gonzalez:

102 international matches, 44 goals. The 7, the eternal captain, he who never does anything. He won everything for fifteen years at Real Madrid is an emblem, a banner, a myth. With the selection, he became the top scorer until the appearance of David Villa. However, it failed at important times, which makes it descend to sixth place on this list. A penalty to the clouds in a quarter-final against France in the Euro 2000 and a final nothing according to a player of his stature against Northern Ireland erased the record of one of the best ever.

7- David Villa:

88 international matches, 53 goals. Golden boot in the Euro 2008, author of five decisive goals in the 2010 World Cup. A specialist in penalties, in the area, in medium distance shots. Worker, disciplined, mobility, the Guaje has all that and much more. A serious injury in 2011 has sown doubts about its future, but not it’s quality.

8- Emilio Butragueno:

69 international matches, 26 goals: a striker of “superior” size not in his measure, but in his opportunism and vision to see the door. Quetaro consecrated him as an international legend with four goals to Denmark. But, besides that, there is much more. There is a race full of titles in Madrid and dozens of goals with the Red.

9- Telmo Zarra:

20 international matches, 20 goals. The author of the most important in World Cups until 2010. The best head after Winston Churchill said of him in the 50s. And maybe it was. Six times Pichichi of the League has the record of being the top scorer of the League in the same season with 38 goals in 30 games.

10- Ricardo Zamora:

46 international matches. A myth, a legend. The Divine. Real Madrid paid 100,000 pesetas at the time for the most media character of the first third of the 20th century.
